A crime thriller following a woman, her low-level criminal boyfriend, his business partner, and a corrupt policeman. Each navigates the same 24 hours as trust collapses around them. Written, produced, and directed by Jacob Brookes-Clayton.

How it got made

Wounds was made on a 15,000 euro budget raised through AFK and crowdfunding, alongside full-time work. Jacob handled the funding application, the budget, scheduling and location licensing across 12 Amsterdam locations, and ran a cast and crew of 15.

On one shoot day a location withdrew as the unit arrived. A replacement was found and the shoot moved the same afternoon. It produced the best shot in the film.

Final delivery was a DCP master in two cuts, with English and Spanish subtitle files, for screenings at Lab111 in Amsterdam and Sala X in Madrid.

About

Jacob Brookes-Clayton is a filmmaker working across writing, directing, and production. After studying film at Manchester Metropolitan University, he spent several years travelling and working across Europe, a period he considers formative in terms of perspective and material. He has always been clear that filmmaking was the destination.

He moved to Amsterdam to work in production at Tungsten Studio, building hands-on experience across commercial, branded, and television work. Embedded in Amsterdam's creative scene through a five-year residency at WOW Arts, he developed his writing practice and produced collaborative work across disciplines.

Wounds, his debut film as writer, director, and producer, was funded by AFK, shot across 12 Amsterdam locations, and screened at Lab111 in Amsterdam and Sala X in Madrid. His second film, Gritstone, is in pre-production with Aperture attached.

Now back in Manchester, he manages productions and studio operations at Big Shed Studios alongside his own work.
